Naked Wood

he said I was good at endings
never was there ever a truer statement
the middles were the times that seemed
to cause the most of the problems
when the sheen of new wears off with time
and I become only bare naked wood
where before they had just seen who
it was they wished for through their gloss
it wasn’t that I had changed any
they just hadn’t wanted to see me
and middles to ends seem
to slide down way too fast
I wish someone could see me
with sand paper eyes
the kind that sees through to the things
that really matter to a real man
who knows that true beauty
shows clearly in a heart
recognizing styles come and go
but pure quality last a lifetime
that sand runs quickly through fingers
but boulders have the weight of bulk
knowing some arms leave you emptier than before
and some you feel tightly when away
a reality much sweeter than any fantasy
with a tender touch being the strength
to make you weak in the knees
yes, I am good at endings
waiting to meet my middle

I hope you know how really good this is.

I love the title...of course being male, my little mind wandered a bit...   *grin*

I don't want to post all my thoughts on the ideas in this, I feel somehow like I am intruding into an area that is too true and too personal.  I just leave it at this is really good in more ways than one.

This is really good.

and I had to pop in and say merry, merry to you.

and this part?

"I wish someone could see me
with sand paper eyes
the kind that sees through... "

It's amazing when that happens, h.

All pretense dropped--and smile, promptly replaced with intense.

Happy Holidays, lady.

How truly profound this is!  You've hit it perfectly.  Those darn middles have a way of dashing all the expectations.  The way you described this is pure genious.

"knowing some arms leave you emptier than before"

Ain't that the risky truth!

"I wish someone could see me
with sand paper eyes
the kind that sees through..."

Nice to find such originality.
