~* The Gift *~

He handed me the little egg music box
as if it had always belonged to me.
It was not adorned in paper or ribbon,
but only in his love that I could see.

It was of the finest porcelain.
An angel knelt within the pretty egg.
Her hands folded tight in prayer,
head bowed, all around her, gold inlaid.

He had spotted her in an antique store,
on his travels a while ago.
He wondered if she could be fixed,
to somehow make the music go.

She had a broken wing as well,
but he knew he had to have this one.
Should he take a chance on buying her?
Could the damage to her be undone?

He said he knew he had to buy her,
seemed she sat there waiting for him.
He'd take a chance and get her fixed,
so this is how an egg got bought on a whim.

He took her to a jeweler in New York,
and explained the context of his request.
The lady at the store said if it could be done
That this jeweler was the very best!

He told the jeweler about two friends,
Who knew each other over 50 years,
And said he wanted this music box
To soothe some of his mother’s tears.

He wanted a particular song installed,
and wondered if that could be done.
The jeweler said to leave it with him;
that the challenge should be fun.

He went back in four days as told,
and was thrilled to see the jeweler's work.
The music box looked as good as new.
He paid, and humbly thanked the clerk.

The little angel now was perfect.
The egg was now all shiny and bright.
He said tears welled up in his eyes
as he wound the key that night.

He bought me that little egg music box
as the angel resembled my friend Jenna.
He was absolutely right on target,
My angel’s hair in heaven is also henna!

He handed her to me like it was nothing.
At the sight of it, tears welled in my eyes.
This time all the pain I had held inside,
flowed out, there was no way I could disguise.

For when I wound the key to hear the music,
that jeweler had put in Jenna’s song,
through my tears I found myself,
actually start to sing and hum along.

"Where Have All The Flowers Gone",
tinkled away magically, so clear
from the little angel music box I held,
given by a son that I hold so dear.

"Why didn’t you wait 'til Christmas,
to give me this gift I’ll always treasure.
He simply said, “I Love You Mom,
if I made you happy, it gives me pleasure."

I feel so very blessed to have a son,
who feels not only my laughter but my pain.
If I could have picked any son there was,
To tell you the truth, I'd pick him again!

~* I Believe *~

Let there be peace on earth,
and let it begin with me.

What a beautiful story!

Sharon, I love it and
you gave me a little tear too,

And I didn't even need the music...

How wonderful is this!
Well, he comes from good stock, so we shouldnt be surprised of such kindness.
Lovely story Sharon.

I can remember Forever December,
The center of dying ... the heart of the pain.
The stars surround me ... the cold astounds me.

(big angel hugs) God Bless You, sweet friend, each time I have read this, it has me flood in tears as it is sooooooo beautiful and just imagining the music box singing a mother's cherished song as a gift given with love makes me cry in joy! (wipes tears) This is one of my all-time favorites of yours, sweet friend, may you and your son's hearts sing like music boxes that play Christmas carols each minute, yay, happy holidays, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sharon, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!
