Solemnly he walked the road
Carrying his heavy load
No one seemed to see him struggle
No one heard him ask - why me
He was bent and full of sweat
His heart was pounding
His life felt spent
He saw a friend and waved one hand
His other held the load he had
The friend looked away didn’t want the load
He struggled more as he felt the goad
Now a hill stand there taunting his journey
His body was falling
No way the hill would he climb
Pray he did almost endlessly
Please help me – please set me free
The thunder roared and he thought god was near
But all he got was rain to make the road impassable
So more prayer he mouthed
More blood he sweat
I will climb that hill
Will make it yet
Answers will come – my god won’t deny
Then sun came out and he felt his skin fry
Am I Job, he cried to the sky
No answer came – the road he traveled
Was his and his alone
Except a friend could have made it easier
No god was there only humans to be
All the man needed to set him free

My favorite lines:

Am I Job, he cried to the sky
No answer came –

Great poem! I really enjoyed reading it.

It should never be so...never. But too often it is. An excellent write, my friend -- I hope it's not autobiographical.

Quite thought provoking Paul.
Often the surface shows little of the depths, and all too often the helping hand that could...cannot.

Always enjoy your thoughts and talents.

I hope there isn't a next time for you, but if there is, I also hope you have that friend along.

Shopping back for good poetry this morning, and I am definitely finding it.

Fabulous writing here Paul.  I felt the pain and anguish through your well written words.

(big angel hugs) Oh Paul, I know just how you feel as I still wait patiently to have a hand to hold and walk the world with laughter and sunshine radiating on my shoulders from ones song! (sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, I send angel comfort hugs your way, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Paul, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!
