Patchquilt of Your Life

This letter and quilt I give to you-
This letter explains the patches of your life.
For you see, I am a master quilter, I will mend your life’s patches all tattered
and torn.
Look! Come here, I will explain.
The center, of powder blue, delicate pink and soft yellow.
I have taken each crocheted strand and covered with Belgian lace.
The powder blue blanket, four pounds of beauty, a new baby born.
The delicate pink with strands of soft yellow weaving
through the bonnet and tiny little booties for your tender little feet.
As we continue with your life-
White terry cloth, your first little jumper suit, trimmed in a candy stripe, with stains of pureed peach or of delicious apple.
Your first winter coat, the color of baby blue lined with soft white fur.
White silk and satin trimmed in lace, your christening dress.
This material, a dark green knit, two piece suit, you are learning to take your
first adventurous steps.
This patch of red wool and black leather, a snow suit to keep you warm as
you explore the world around you.
Oh! This is a piece of silk the color of red, from your first tie, you looked so handsome in your little blue suit and little red tie.
Remember these items of love?
Your old torn and tattered jean jacket the color of blue, your sailor hat the color of white, all mended on your patchquilt of your life.
Now these patches, I had to stop and think.
How do I preserve these patches of your life?
Into a waterproof pouch covered with the sheerest material man can create.
A patch of your favorite tree you loved to climb.
A patch of your first snowball that will never melt.
A patch of your first smile and your first baby words.
A patch of your first tear shed in your innocence.
The outer edge is filled with love and tenderness, for I captured a piece of the sun to keep your heart warm and a smile upon your lips.
I captureda piece of a falling star,
for you to make a wish upon.
I captured a piece of the moon, tokeep the glow of happiness within your lovely blue eyes.
I captured a piece of the wind, to help your imagination soar to the heavens and beyond.
This gift I give to you my darling child-
For I am the master quilter
I am the patchquilt maker..................I am the creator of lasting memories.

Love Bon-Bon

You were so very right, Bon-Bon... this is a beautiful story behind a beautiful poem, and I'm proud you would want to share it with me.

Can't thank you enough for that.

Library? Oh yes, you bet!
