mother tell me what is this?
words are crafted twine of doll
all the things they say that is
never was a thing too tall
Mom, they told me things that change
the way that I think things, again,
and nothing here remains the same--
did they think they could tell me?

Did they think me blind?

Mom, I'll keep you safe
smack-down
I'll buy you olives in the jar
Mom, I'll keep you safe, always
Look at me. I can go far.

Pushing hair behind his ears,
worrying too much.

"love you mom"
a kiss on head
and yes it's true I worry much
tiny motioning of hairs
held in place by flapping ear
aching for the want of say
that I love you too...

thirteen...

aching...to be twelve.

serenity

I remember 12, aching to be 13, and now that you have said it, I see it the other way too.  Love the way you did this, with love and intelligence.

This reminds me of my 14-year-old son when he was that age.  It's so true.  Very expressive and made me the sort-of bitter/sweet elements of loss of innocence.

This puts me in mind of the youngest here, and when he became a teen.
But you know what I'm really aching for?
Him to be eighteen!

This was inspired by my kids of course. I think as young teens, they are kind of at that awkward stage for the holidays--and I smile now, knowing they are nostalgic for their "younger" days.

And no, they don't want "Hungry Hungry Hippo" anymore, but I believe they miss wanting that.

Peace, people.

I hope to be here reading tomorrow--I should have a little more "quiet on the set" when they stomp off to school in the morning.

All in all it's been a damned noisy weekend.

*weary smile*?

Thanks for reading and understanding.

K---seems like everything you say/write lately, reminds me of something.  But I've already hijacked one of your threads, so, I'll spare ya the story...

...and I don't even feel old, but I feel something oddly like that.  And I can't imagine life when I wasn't thirteen, but more like nine or ten.  Hay in my hair, a smile on my face.  I miss the hay, it's so much better.

So much I could say about this..but I won't hijack your thread either...

Let's just say it envoked some memories and feelings...

My oldest was always grown up, until he really was and then he chose to revert to Peter Pan/adolesence; it is good for now that he married a Wendy.  My youngest wanted to stay "little" forever, and now I find he is too serious and worries too much.

I have no defense for my parenting skills or lack thereof since I had no real role models, neither good nor bad, but I can't help thinking that almost all parents at times wish they had done some things better.

Sometimes, I have to work at remembering that they chose me and certainly knew enough about me before they were born to have made  reasoned decisions.

You are a pearl of great prize as a human and that will in time be your greatest gift to them.

May the new sun rise strongly on your face and may your new year blessed be.
