“A LITTLE MORE SHOOFLY JUNCTION”
by Bill Charles
~~~~
I’ve been away from that place Shoofly Junction for a while now,
but remember many of those times there and some of the people I
met like the guy that used to pick up coal all of the time, heck I
can’t remember his name, must be a mature thing, hey, it’s not a
getting older thing now, anyway he picked up coal all winter to keep
his shack down by the river warm, kinda felt sorry for him in a way,
heard he got hurt in one of them coal mine accidents like Dorsel
did back some time ago and couldn’t work no more…
Now there’s a real treat, Dorsel that is, I’m sure you all know by now
that he’s my step dad, and always treated me OK, like when we used to
go up the holler chasing down them beers, h’aaaa, I was chasing more
than beers, but anyway, I remember those times coming home late
sneaking in the windows so’s mom wouldn’t catch us, heck I will never
forget that time she popped him over the head with that frying pan,
but I’ve already written about that episode a little while ago, but heck
that man was and still is one helluva guy no matter what anyone says,
no one else took me in when I was down and out, I respect him for
that, never asked me why or how, but was just always there when I
needed a place, love that man I do…
Why him and mom helped me buy my first car, a real hot rod Ford it
was, whew, some of those good looking coal miner daughter’s spent
some times in that hot rod, but I’m not going to give those secrets up,
except I wonder what ever happened to Frankie, that good looking
daughter of that coal miner that came looking for us one late night,
whew, that was a close one for sure, and as I think about it whatever
happened to Barbara, and her sister Patty I wonder…
Anyway, Dorsel is getting up in age now, but I’ll never forget him for
his help and wisdom, and all of those good times we had.For you
Dorsel, thank you from me, and as I think about it, I need to get back
there soon, to say hello to that special coal miner… And maybe
find out where Frankie ever went to, hehehe….
