Poinsettia
By: Noah Eaton
12/13/03

There's a little Mexican girl up at the alter
On Christmas Eve, staring into the manger
Where Christ is born, where the north star glistens
Where all the townspeople are dedicating their service

Sadness fills her eyes, rather than cheer
You see she's poor, and she's filled with fear
That her humble gift would be embarrassing
What can I give that'd be worthy of His blessing?

Then she remembers the words her cousin told her
Fear not, my friend, please do not cry
"Even the most humble gift, if given in love,
will be acceptable in His eyes."

She fought back her tears, headed out of the chapel
Went into the fields to see what might have unraveled
Deep in a ditch, she picked a handful of weeds
Arranged them in a bouquet in honor of His nativity

Looking at them in her hand, she felt powerless
Why would He accept such an offering like this?
She returns to the chapel with mud on her feet
Dirt on her hands and tears falling down her cheeks

Then she remembers the words her cousin told her
Fear not, my friend, please do not cry
"Even the most humble gift, if given in love,
will be acceptable in His eyes."

She knelt to lay her gift right next to the scene
All at once, flowers begin to bloom on the weeds
Blooms of scarlet, witnessed right before the people
Without doubt believing they have just seen a miracle

You see, my friend, any gift that may seem mundane
If given from love up above will always be praised
A simple beating of the heart that a loved one can feel
Is that most precious gift that couldn't be any more real

Remembers these words that I share with you
Fear not, my friend, love doesn't come with a price
"Even the most humble gift, if given in love,
will be acceptable in His eyes."

You're Poinsettia,
you're a flower of the evening,
you're the simple gift,
that just keeps on giving...

"Even the most humble gift, if given in love,
will be acceptable in His eyes."

"You'll find something that's enough to keep you
But if the bright lights don't receive you
You should turn yourself around and come back home" MB20

noah,

as i've sat and read countless poems
by you over time, your vocabulary and
form always amaze me, but it's your
brilliant and beautiful heart that
always leave me speechless. thank you
for reminding us all what's truly
important.

happy holidays to you!

Oh little brother, what a beautiful Christmas poem this is!!  And so true...sometimes I think we get so caught up in the actual gift, that we forget the magic really lies in the heart of the giver!  Thank you for reminding us, Noah...~S~

Noah Dearest, I thank YOU for your gift of Christmas to us ~ your fellow PiPsters and friends!

Your words could move mountains, cause the oceans to rise, and paint the skies with glorious, golden rays of Light. Hallelujah!

"Jesus loves you, this I know!"

Peace, Love, & Harmony,
EA
