Nuances of Gray

The subtleties of life and death I see,
Darkly as if they're mirrored reflections,
And mayhap their specters will speak with me,
But still they're naught more than mere projections.

As the reddening of a forenoon sky,
Each yields its measure of light and shadow,
And though one says, "hello," and one, "good-bye,"
'Tis neither that set my spirit aglow.

Perhaps there are sleeping and waking dreams,
Exquisite, supple, declines of sorrow,
What seems though is not always as it seems,
For this consciousness we only borrow.

When this song is o'er and I've turned the page,
'Tis nuances of gray that will assuage.

So worn am I, so displeased of today,
So haggard from unremembered fatigue,
My life's not but a wasting away,
And there is naught that fills me with intrigue.

So sluggish am I, so disadvantaged,
I can scarce goad myself to rise each morn,
The shadows lengthen 'til my life's upstaged,
Aye emotionally I was stillborn.

Oh roses of keenest thorn take my verve,
Let my blood nourish thy roots e'en in death,
Give to me the peace that mine actions deserve,
Than lay me down 'neath the false baby's breath.

The secrets I keep I've wrapped in dead hair,
Let lifelessness be wedded to my stare.

If I should take my life with mine own hand,
In darkness as a dead man out of sight,
I will bleed through the bitter night as planned,
But over fiendish yowls I will take flight.

Yet mean the joyance doled out by action,
And sweet the sadness that ends by-and-by,
Mayhap there's accord and satisfaction,
In knowing that tears will not stain mine eye.

A dimness more clear than death holds me,
For my limbs have long been nailed to a cross,
Mayhap closure will cleanse my heart's debris,
'Tis time to lay me down 'neath the black moss.

Let my grit be screwed to the sticking place,
For Death, Oh sweet Death, I long to embrace.

Remember, if you're not part of the future, you're history!

Kevin, you're a gem....a charm on the bracelet I wear when I need to remind myself that there are great people in the world...

even if your muse goes to the Bahamas now and then, you can still read and reply...throw in a little smilie here and there to let us know you're still alive...

but yeah, I understand about Christmas time...don't be a stranger, ey?

Kev, I would sure enjoy watching and listening to you read these things outloud. Your  writes feel as if they are from another time and realm. enjoyed the inline alliterations "not" and "naught", the way you handle words such as "mayhaps"

...and yet,
"Perhaps there are sleeping and waking dreams,"
and I would ask
that you spend one more night
walking, waking,
to the dawn...

Very good write, Sir...it IS good to see you again!

I wouldn't push it, it will come fast enough. But I do pick up the symbols of your words. Good write.

LOL, I just had to come back to this one this morning after my daily mirror-avoidance routine.

Wow! Thank-you all for the kind words. I was really surprised to see this back up at the top of the page this morning. Other then Passing Shadows having looked at it I thought it was a lost cause. Thank-you indeed dear friends. Each and every one of you has just made my day. I am smiling from ear to ear.

Good gawd Kevin, the way you write is incredible......
"emotionally I was stillborn."
sometimes I wish I was stillborn emotionally....seems some things would be much easier that way.  Very wonderful write.

Evocative verse...There is much feeling expressed within this excellent verse.  I wish you peace and a pen with lots of ink!  Hugs!
