I live my life behind the safety glass of a TV
screen.
I confuse the news, its tragedy with drama,
and end my concern like rolling credits.
Our celebrities are larger than life,
our news is beyond it.
Today I watched eyes concede hope beneath black veils,
full of the question;
The why that cascaded from New York’s September skies,
demanded retribution,
burned stomachs half a planet from home.
I’ve watched it march miles since the world rolled on its back-
over ocean and desert,
through airports and city streets.
It stares at me now,
beneath tears and black veils.
It has shaken down the walls of a mosque,
shaken the life of a cleric
and the spirit of a people.
But it only shakes my head
behind the safety glass.

Very clever poetic employ of imagery, metaphor, and analogy.
Powerful, stirring write Kevin.
Very well done poet sir!!

I can remember Forever December,
The center of dying ... the heart of the pain.
The stars surround me ... the cold astounds me.

kev-

as often is the case with your work,
this is very powerful! you left a million
images in your readers head, and yet
definied it in a very unique and concerete
way! great job

"But it only shakes my head
behind the safety glass."

Excellent Kevin!  I really liked the way you tackled this piece. The closing lines brought home the visual to me of how far removed "we" are from certain situations, yet how stark the reality is to those who are touched by tragedy directly sans the glass screen. Really well done.

Best wishes,
/Kit
