I just had an epiphany
I realized, why I am so
Ashamed to admit
I am a “Temperamental Artist,”
I remember my dad’s
Look of utter shame,
That horrible sadness
Creeping over his face
The tears always just
Shining in his eyes
Never to spill
Every time my mother
Degraded and emasculated him
For being
A “temperamental artist”
She always spit it out
With such distaste
“Temperamental Artisttttttt!!”
Like it was something
To be ashamed of!
I didn’t realize
Until just this moment
That I was embarrassed
To be what I am
This me I have
So violently been seeking
Has always been
Around the corner peeking
An ashamed little girl
Afraid to be what she was
For fear of being
Labeled
As her father was
“A Temperamental Artist”
