RESCUED

In the absence of a thought
My pen leaped into the damp and cold
Of an early December morning.
Brushing its shoulder
Against the prickly limbs
Of a holly bush.

I hadn’t noticed
The plump little berries,
The finest crop of red
This tree has ever known

And ink spilled over them in
A poetic embrace
And picked some branches
For a decorated passage of verse.

I stood back,
A distance from the tree,
But my pen was there upon a single leaf,
Scalloping its edge with words
And polishing its tough skin
With green waxy phrases

How glad I was
Not to have approached,
For in that moment, a flutter of scarlet red
Swished into the bush
And perched, tilting its ruby head
As if to ask my pen a question.

I felt a throb of elation
At the splash of red against the white
Of a fresh portrait of snow,
Captured in letters on a linen page

And then I remembered why I was so fond of
This dear and loyal friend,
For my  pen had rescued another silent moment
In the absence of a thought.

Now there you go writing free verse the way it is supposed to be done for the world to see, I see?  How strange this popped here before me as I was just thinking of you and missing you.  If it had of been mistletoe yanno I might just kiss ya! LOL, just kidding (sort of.)

Beautiful imagery and a very pleasant read.  I especially liked the phrase:

"my  pen had rescued another silent moment
In the absence of a thought"
