I have seen the famous photo
Of you and Elvis, Jerry Lee, and Carl
All hunched over the microphone
At Sun Records.

You were like a row of Roman Candles
Wondering who would flare the farthest,
Or make the bigger bang....
You held your own.

We should have a national day
Of wearing black.
Maybe stalk around with guitars
Slung over our shoulders.

We should sing of trains
Rings of Fire
and prison.
Maybe call ourselves Sue
for one day, anyway.

So you didn't cure cancer
Who has?
But you fired off with the best,
Flared bright for a while
And are gone.

You lit up the sky with your song.
And left us wanting more.

He will be remembered and missed for so much than his music, this man knew how to live life, and taught it well.  May he rest in peace.

I wish I had written this...
for it is exactly what I would have said.

It's a scientific fact....You can take any two objects -- cover one with gold and put the other in black.... black shines brighter, when it's hot!

The man in black was a mortal, this we all knew, yet wished it untrue. Saddly he has taken his last bow, exited stage left without a sound. His words and chords will play on, in the silence of the night, his immortality is in what he left behind.
