Quite an obstacle to carefree adolescence, it is,
to awaken from a three-week coma
and to discover you cannot speak.
The covert doldrums of the inflamed meninges
were first to wind into oblivion.
No exertion of will would spring them back
to their pre-coma agility.
No manner of tongue and lip exercises
would perfect, again, the streetwise
thirteen-year-old's,
"hey, baby-girl, I think you're cute"

Everything had stopped for three weeks.
The boy reached for the alphabet chart,
created for him,
to express a thirst for apple juice.
—It all appears very gloomy, some inner voice
did claim.

Oh goodness, this one hurt. I hope all is
better now. Sometimes we forget about the
hurts of the world in our Holiday Season.
Hugs to you,
Ethel

What a shock to awaken with no voice, lost memories even may occur. I have one written of a woman who was in a coma for years then awakens. What a shock to find family members now old and gray and her face filled with wrinkles.
Hope all is well.
Love Bon-Bon

Spiros?  Everything all right?
Just a piece, I hope, of something you
once saw, and not now experiencing?

Well done, Sir...

it made me reach out...
