The Anima Sola or Lonely Soul is a Catholic depiction of a suffering person
A woman in chains amidst the barred prison doors and flames of Purgatory,
The place where sinners go while awaiting final judgment. Because the woman looks penitential and reverent, and her chains are broken, the image sends an ambiguous message of suffering and release from suffering.

…The Anima Sola…

Ive seen what’s to gain from the lady bound in chains
Her body engulfed in flames...drugs injected in her veins
The hell she designed is where she remains
Searching for the keys to relieve her pain
Bound the same as Jesus when he was slain
No crown of thorns surrounded her brain
Just the consistent need for cocaine
This woman gave birth to the author of this poetic epic
Raising a seed incubated in antiseptic
Praying that her son the disease hasn’t infected
Growing up alone allowed me to accept myself
I can try and change..Never to be someone else
Young minds like mine...couldn’t define the thin line
I walk every time drugs and alcohol I combine
Half man half chemical..100% individual
None before me or to come.. Authentic & original
Over the years her fears enraged the wildfires
As I grow older I feel her burning desires
Creation of a mirror image of self
A distorted reflection.. Life repeated thru someone else
Every day I thank the one who walked me thru the sands of time
Knowing her ending is destined to be mine
The same fire she extinguished...rekindled in the form of her first born
I control my own future but her past I still mourn...
I despise the fact I wasn’t aborted or stillborn
To see the creator of life sacrifice her life to a needle
Being judged by people..Posessed by pure evil
Ive let her down.. I wasn’t supposed to become the sequel
Drugs even me out.. Balanced and equal
Why fight the predetermined.. I am who created me
Seeing her burn from the inside cremated me mentally
All I am is walking ashes
Been punished by a thousand lashes
Only faint flickering of flame flashes and the scent of burnt matches
Forever branded inside & released thru gashes
Toxins embedded in me since birth
My blood could scorch dry earth
The burning sensation I inherited from my mother
A struggle to gain acceptance from her and no other
For it was she who broke the chains...
Resurrected a new life from the flames
Like the phoenix arising from the charred debris
Only to see history repeat itself... living thru me

So glad I caught your write.
There is such anguish in what appears to be a predetermined lot in life...
I feel strongly that we are who we choose to be...for I grew up watching this same phoenix...
Excellent write...powerful.

This was an incredible write. To keep the rhythm in a piece such as this is no easy task. You pulled it off really well.

Very indepth, and dramatic writing. You got your images across with great word usage. Good job.

I agree, very dramatic, and holds the attention of the reader quite well.
I do hope that you do not now consider yourself the sequel to anyone, but as a unique individual. Never regret being born, dear. Your life has a purpose, as does all of our lives. Finding it may be difficult, but the challenge is always well taken. Peace to you, and keep writing.
