what would be the reason
for the rain to fall today?
to commemorate the tears
that began an endless flow
just sixty-two years ago?

sixty-two years
from the onslaught
sixty-two years
from one horrendous battle
that would surely be
“a war
to end all wars”

wasn’t that the promise
or was it more a threat
at any rate
one must acknowledge
neither
was the truth

battles still rage
war is still waged
sin is still contemplated
and recorded on each page

as long as there is manity
plagued with lust and vanity
on the soil of this sod
there will be plenty souls
that try the patience
of our God

it would be time enough
if the tears had begun on that day
instead of centuries
where man has kept the fray

a question of power
tried and tried, not won.
Lucifer fell from heaven
in the time when war’d begun

yet waiting in the wings
was the awesome Prince of Peace
from time immemorial
a promise of release

so now we wait and watch
and some of us pray
waiting in the wings
for Earth’s final day

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Pearl Harbour? A black day in American history. A very moving write...lest we forget.

No one will ever agree with you more.
Mankind will never get himself out of the mess he's in.
Only divine intervention will cure all of man's problems.
Even though we kill one another I'm glad we're not puppets.  We'll have to make the choice to do what's right personally each and everyone of us. If not then we'll be judged accordingly.

Good write.
