A Christmas Fire
~~~
My easy-chair steps closer to the hearth
with each passing Christmas
an ingle-nook forestalling isolation and despair
A wisp of smoke
the gentle song of embers
as the flames engulf stale reality
with the golden glow of merry voices
from so many years ago
~
Church-bells chiming faintly
mingle with the sound of carolers
weaving door to door
through the fresh
crisp
trackless snow
Smiling eyes singing
hand in hand
Warm hearts reaching out
and hugs
before they go
~
Though next . . . an ivy'd manor house
one stayed on to linger
One with a face
framed by a wreath of flaxen hair
the shyest stair from downcast eyes
cheeks flushed to rose
and a voice
that whispered to the deepest heart
~
Songbook clutched across a breast
throbbing
to the feathered touch of fairy feet
If only you knew
from that moment
to this
you would bring to me and always fulfill
my fondest memories
each Christmas
~~~

Wow. I really like this one Rex, and am glad to see you back in here!

This is beyond a Currier and Ives scene.

It always surprises me to see that I'm still remembered when I pop in ... I don't write very much anymore, just one or two a year, but I thank you all for your kind words of encouragement and friendship.

Rex
