Rejection

I am softspoken in thought
feeling like I'm a hand-me-down,
knowing that "first cut was the deepest"
but not knowing if I can ever
get over the fear and sorrow
to ever find another
who knows how to share love.

I am mending, but there are side effects
to my thoughts and feelings.
The separation and solitude
often speaking louder than words,
my eyes see clearly what isn't there.
And my heart has shut itself down,
becoming emotionless, leaving the tears now,
for others who have something to cry about.

Here's hoping you can hold on to that softspoken you...sometimes ill meaning ones steal that from you, and rip it apart for sport. Guard your heart there are cruel ones out there.

Ah, Maureen. Your brave heart has not "shut itself down." It is just resting up for another whirlawind escapade with that rascal called love. Love the way you write. But...I think you already know that. hugs, Chris

Maureen, just when the time is right, you will.
