Whose child is this...
waiting, hiding, til the man
from inside takes out the garbage
and hopes she gets there before
the rats come, hopes there
is enough to fill her aching belly.

Whose child is this...
snotty nose pressed against the window
watching the dime store Santa
knowing he can't bring the one thing
he wants, the one thing he needs,
loving parents and a happy home.

Whose child is this...
huddled against the cold
newspaper close to his chest
wrapped in rags, trying to find
somewhere warm, somewhere safe
somewhere not alone.

Whose child is this...
wrapped in cast off rags
laid on a bed of straw
lowly beasts calling
searched for by kings
Love
Light
Hope

Whose child is this?

Oh my, Paula. This gripped my heart, as I
could see the children through yur eyes as I read.
I wish so much that I could do more for these poor kids.
The children are the ones that always suffer more.
Hugs to you and all of the them,
Ethel

Very powerful write.  Sadly true.  I could really see the pictures you painted here.
