Pardon Me …
~*Marge Tindal*~

Pardon me if I cry
at the sound of goodbye
for it gets to me every time
So sad the refrain
as the whistle of train
disappears in retreat
down the tracks of defeat

goodbye … goodbye … goodbye~

the spirit rejoices over what it has left.

Well crafted, although a touch sad!

No goodbyes from us, dear Marge.  Nicely done write.  I am glad I am here and you are a big reason in the beginning, the reasons grow as I get to know more poets.

Nicely written piece too.

I don't care for goodbyes myself--though I did like your poem, Marge.

Goodbyes can be the most heart-wrenching thing but for me goodbyes are really never goodbye...but really "see you later." because to me true goodbyes...are eternal

Dear Marge:  I can remember lying in bed at night, in the far north and listening to a train's mournful whistle disappearing in the distance and feeling so sad! This evokes the same feeling!

Well done. Just enough here to make me feel it, and not so much as to overdo.

Good-bye? Hell-o?

Should be "hell-bye" and "good-o"! lol

Farewells are best said "hasta luego"! ~ See you soon!

A very effective presentation of au revoir sentiments!

I so appreciate each thoughtful reply to this little piece~

From www.dictionary.com

Alteration (influenced by good day), of God be with you.

Word History No doubt more than one reader has wondered exactly how goodbye is derived from the phrase "God be with you."

To understand this, it is helpful to see earlier forms of the expression, such as God be wy you, god b'w'y, godbwye, god buy' ye, and good-b'wy.

The first word of the expression is now good and not God, for good replaced God by analogy with such expressions as good day, perhaps after people no longer had a clear idea of the original sense of the expression.

A letter of 1573 written by Gabriel Harvey contains the first recorded use of goodbye-"To requite your gallonde [gallon] of godbwyes, I regive you a pottle of howdyes," recalling another contraction that is still used.

But life experiences and the night-train whistle is my real inspiration for this little penning from my heart~
It fell to the page in less time than it takes a teardrop to cascade~

Always say goodbye, as if you may never see them again....not because it's true, but because it's the best insurance that you will....

Perhaps that's why a train's sound is so forlorn?

Dear Marge,
This is very nice. It brings back memories  when I had to leave Georgia and say "good-bye" to my daughter and then return to Michigan. I really liked this poem and I have liked everything that I have read so far that you have written. Barb

OH, this is a sad one, dear lady. I heard a train crossing a track a few days ago that made the sound of distant drums.

Hugs!
