Glass Hearted

I see through your heart,
and the temptation that detaches itself,
as glass is frost covered
when the temperature lowers,
and the all too familiar stance
proves itself again.

Something inside me has begun
to relinquish the hold
that reached out to warm,
waiting to melt that frost
and show the love that lay bare
what is dressed for others.

It had to be
sooner or later,
that loss of sense and self.
When my tomorrows are no different than my todays
and the todays no different than yesterday,
that power begins to wane.
All I am left with is a gentle kiss of words
that once were and a touch of lips
to never be again.

Is this real or fantasy?
Or is it just me accepting what is/is not.
Putting the longing of love behind me,
to shadow me rather than lead me.
My eyes can watch you now,
seeing you as you and nothing more.
My heart can slow its beat
until electrified by the wrappings of another.

Thoughts and feelings to wonder no more,
as I place this glass heart where it belongs...
in memory of you.

Oh, Maureen, this is beautiful and going into my library. Time does heal all wounds and yes, we can look at the one we thought was the "only one", and simply breathe and move on. hugs, Chris

Maureen, this is so touching to me......
the poem, the thoughts, but most of all your heart.
My friend, you are such a loving person. I
know that one day the enormous love you give will
be returned to you in the enormous way that
you deserve so much.

Thanks, sweet lady, for sharing your heart with us.
Hugs
Ethel
