Equipped with toes on my feet
and days to walk more
I'll witness victory and defeat
sail to distant shores.

They comforted me when I sojourned in a crib
filled my mouth with digits when I needed a bib,
instructed to count on toes and fingers
the joy of tallied toes was not to linger.

With then I could balance my weight on a favorite stool,
at a tender age, pantry biscuits would make me drool;
I'd still have my quota of five on each leg
exposed in summers, or shielded in shoes instead.

Now at a distance of so many years
a knock on one toe caused me some fear
a careless hit while seated in my lion legged tub
made me appreciate again those digits I'd scrub.

The words stubbing my toe kept coming to mind...Ouch...hehe...I would never have thought to write about this subject, but I did hear one time without your big toe you can't stand. I don't know why I told that? Shrugs shoulderz?
Love,
Terri~

Toes are great... there's just something about them hehe (or maybe I'm just strange)

Life isn't really all that bad... just don't take it too seriously

shaking my head and smiling...

you just reminded me of a lovely memory.

I was sitting with my Dad once, and I had casually propped my feet, ankles crossed on his knee. We sat there quietly, both of us staring at my feet. Whereupon he broke the silence, making an obvious reference to my monkey type toes (I have this huge gap between my big toe and my first "little toe" which made me quite dextrous at climbing trees in my day)and he said, in his lovely Texan drawl:

"Yanno? You could fit a whole 'nuther toe a'tween them two."

I smiled with pride until he continued:

"Tain't natural."

You are so right Martin. It's the little things that make poetry.

I had to read this if only because the title reminded me of PIP's Toe... and I thoroughly enjoyed! *S*
