There he was....
Tenaciously climbing ever slowly
upon the vertical silicon floor,
destination, parts unknown.

Reminding of another place, upon the
dark ribbon of mile, passing billboards
that told of forgotten things of long ago.
Counting telephone poles, one by one...
dodging road pizza, listening to Wolfman
Jack...howling the AM band....

Who was winning?  I or the snail...Sliding
effortlessly along, dragging that heavy shell
behind....I felt that...the weight upon the
arch of my back...Yet, I knew who would
win this race....

Hotdog, beer and fries....two to go, one
to hide between the chilled legs...  Sipping
away a stray suds...Wanna beer?...I thought
to the snail....Probably a recovering alky...
Cheers Bud!

Eighty miles from Nowhere, USA...got
lotsa gas and little gasoline....perhaps
peanuts might....

Funny, this race.....the snail methodically climbing,
toward a dream only it knows....as we scurry along,
hell bent to Nowhere, USA....clueless....on a wing
and a prayer...sometimes less. Parking our carcasses
in some too bright rest area for forty winks
and a crick in the neck.

At least he has a clue
where he is headed, and....
when he gets tired,
that shell makes a really nice bed....

Smiling, watching the slow methodical slither...
Destination....he knows...

Ciao my friend....
See Ya down the blacktop...
Oh yeah.......you  won....I never had a chance...
On this road to Nowhere, USA.

Sure Ya don’t wanna beer?

(smiles) Hey, the snail wins the race in America, cause the hares go so fast they don't have time to see the sights beside them! (big hugggsssssss) Congratulations on 10,000, sweet Barry, you truly are a leading part of this wonderful poetic family, Congratulations on your new Patricius status, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Barry, thank you for sharing!

Thanx Duncan...yeah,  I lost the race..but
I don't have to keep one eye open for birds
and other critters to gobble me up....
Should I get a shell too??

First, congrats on the 10,000th post!  Second, you had to know I would love this one...being one wild teenager who loved to drive and drive over 100 mph.  Shoot, did I just say that?  Well, that was many moons ago, and yep, that darn snail won too.  I didn't have a chance.

Thanks for making me smile tonight, Mag.

once did 149 miles per hour on a local
interstate..back in the days....way back
in the days...   When I was super STOOOPID!!

..reminds me of the joke about the snail getting raped by the turtle. When the office asked the snail what happened, she said "I don't know. It was all so fast!!"

Hearty congrats on this milestone, Barry. 10,000 and every one done with class and style. May there be many more, my friend
