Real Beauty Is Interior

There was a time wihen I would have given all
that I possess for a woman of exterior beauty.
Thinking it was the grand prize, the necessary
ingredient to guarantee a world of happiness.
Now I would not give $1.98 because I know that
my eyes were the victim of lust and vanity.
Physical beauty pleases the eye but what can
it do for the pleasure of the heart and soul?
In reality, nothing matters more than the
essence of the beauty that comes from within.
With it comes all the blessings of the universe.
Without it, you have an empty vessel, pleasing
to the eye but in the interior void of substance.

Very true James...the real beauty comes from the heart and soul of the person.
Well done!

Reminded me of the old song, said something like, "A pretty face don't make no pretty heart".

i agree w/ duncan. one can never be sure if a person's physical beauty balances her inner beauty.

Bravo James!!!.....and a huge round of applause for this fine piece of writing.  How very true it is that beauty is only skin deep.  It is only when we look beyond that we find the real hidden treasure.

They must be felt with the heart."

it seems like
maybe, you have recogized the differnce
between visual and internal lust and love,
they are great in simularity but opposite in purpose
may your journey be real, my friend,
good times, dorky times, and real feel good times could be right under your begining
peace kindly,

Great verse, JamesMichael...uhhhh..but, I'm confused...aren't you the same JamesMichael that penned the ultra-sexy "Hong Kong Girls"?  Ohh..just checking!! LOL (And, I know...it sure doesn't hurt to be beautiful in both "realms"!!)

Both are great poems, though...seriously.

Thank you.

After extensive research, I do believe you finally learned a valuable lesson! lol

Cheers to not taking things, or women, at face value!

Yeah, you are so right!! That is the truest thing, really. Outer beauty is not everything. iIf someone is good looking, but really nasty to you, would you date them? No, definately not, not me at least. You have a good talent for expressing what you think.

Good Job!!

James - you are so right with this. Beauty does come from the inside, I've learned it and it's true...

I have witnessed beyond beautiful people on the outside...but...and I say this with no insult intended...that beauty becomes less and less attractive once that person shows they're true inner self..you can dress it up with the best of clothes, jewelery, the finest of make-up, but...when there is nothing inside accept self absorption, greed and attitude...all else seems to disappear and that beauty fades awful quickly.

To me, beauty from within is priceless...I don't care what you look like on the outside, the more beautiful you are on the inside shines through and is so eternally complimenting and attractive.  The better I become aquainted with these people...I cannot express how beautiful/handsome they become, more then easy on the eyes.

Lovely poem...
