We met when the trees
were undressing; they knit
a plaid quilt for the shivering
ground and you carved our
names in hearts on treelog
benches and picked me up
and carried me across the
autumn threshold in your artist
arms.  We bared souls, naked,
in november leaves, we played.
13 moons have come and gone
and they take more of your face
each time. I sleep with
amber leaves between the
mattress where the bed stays
cold, to hold you near me
somehow, and feed the void
you left, in desperation to feel
what you filled in me, on that
one sweet day when the sun
and trees and everything just
sang above and below. Beneath
my pillow, I hide the shrine of
keepsake leaves,disintegrating
with time, as i try frantically
to trace you now, fingertips
grasping at air that is blind.
