in the shadows

In my time of sadness
while I'm approaching madness,
I ask if you could linger
and sit with me awhile;
I'm down to herbs
and whiskey
and I have not been thirsty
since I watched you fading
in the distance of lost time;
beware the future's promise,
of excitement,
wealth and love's bliss,
for all will one day dry
to powder on the wind.

Come sit
and tell me your dreams,
I know it seems a burden
to not be out chasing rainbows
and enchanted pots of gold,
but I won't be here forever,
and your mind is clearly clever
in understanding life's costs
far beyond your years;
so remember me to children
who've yet not agreed to be born
and won't until I'm long gone,
scattered dust upon the sea.

storytime sounds nice...
there are many lessons I know I still need to learn.

This is excellent, I love it.

I'd share herbs and whiskey with you any day, and count the gain.

So true. This one touched a spark in me
Might even a bit of inspiration.
