The branches hang low and heavy,
sweeping the frozen ground
with each blast of arctic chill.
In winter’s unforgiving icy grip,
the animals seem to hide from the elements,
mimicking the two legged creatures
seen scurrying swiftly from car to door,
carrying packages of Thanksgiving cheer.
It is brutally cold outside,
yet even within this seemingly cold gesture
of mother nature’s wrath,
a lowly squirrel does find refuge discovering
pine nuts in abundance
hidden beneath the blessings of shelter,
a safe haven for another day
from the eyes of predators
and the chills of the world.

And my deepest thoughts on this day
lead me back in time,
to the face and words of a friend I dearly miss,
whose heart hugs and chatter gave
each of us many reasons
to be thankful.
And I am truly thankful
for the moments she gifted us
in these blue pages.
Remembering you,
Lyra.

I remember that sweet little squirrel too. Your tribute is lovely, just like your heart.

I think it's winter coming on
and the chipmunks scurrying to...
or it could be the time of year..
or just a word,
or phrase..
But yes, I feel it too..and miss her so.

I think of her more often than I could've imagined.  Today, was no exception.  Mostly, when I'm walking the dog in the woods.  I look at the world differently because of knowing and reading Lyra.  And so now, when I see the world, I still see her.
Thank you Kacy, for remembering for alot of us.

No day is going by that I don't think of my Chipmunk friend, because the little gift she gave me in New Port Richie last year, is laying next to my bed, as all gifts I got from so many special friends.
Meeting Lyra meant a great deal to me, she lives within my heart, day and night.

Thanks for your beautiful poem.

I clicked on the link you gave us. Oh, our beloved Lyra had such a 'lyra'cal spirit. Her poetry read like a song.
Now she has the answers to those time-asked questions!

You are still in our hearts, Dear Lyra, Dear Lyra...

We loveya bunches, Chippermunky!

Kacy & Lyra, hugs to both of you!

Titia, you are indeed a lucky lady to have had a few moments in realtime with Lyra.

Lauren, I didn't mean to make anyone cry.
(but I needed a tissue to post this one)

Linda. Bet she is giggling with that Q.

Thanks Chris, she is still in our hearts, isn't she?

It's all VERY good. "The iron chipmunk" will always occupy a special place.

Thanks Kacy, for doing this.

Kacy~
This is such a loving reminder of the lady we all knew and loved~

When she walked into the Villa in New Poet Richey ... our hearts were all soooo moved at the genuine loving kindness and determination of this little lady~

I have planted the Lyra Tree (Papaya propagated from a Papaya we got from New Poet Richey) in memory of her ... it's growing daily as a reminder of the wonderful time we all had with her September 2002~

Her smile could light up the room ... and it did~

Kacy ... thank you for this loveliest of memory makers~

Marge, thank you so much for sharing the Lyra Papaya tree info with us. Yes, she lit these pages as well. Write us a poem about the Lyra tree, OK?
Dixie, here's a clean tissue, I didn't use the whole box this time.

Kacy,
How kind. Lyra knew how to put a smile on a broken heart. It was from experience. She blessed my life when I needed it most. And yet she needed comfort too. I think she stored some of her treasures in my heart and occasionally comes back to reclaim a piece. Thank you dear friend.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
