Ladybug

Ladybug, with speckled wings
Of bright crimson and black,
You are the most wondrous thing
From scope to smallest speck.

Come, land upon this child’s knee
And spark his wild delight;
Sharing time beneath the trees
To fill his love of life.

Come, kiss this child’s cheek, my dear
And look! She laughs with glee.
Having friends like you so near
Is to befriend beauty.

Innocence sees a Mother,
This gentle lady-bug,
Dressed in hues like no other
Still humble in it’s love.

Knowledge chimes in like a clock
Claiming the right to teach
The lesson of the peacock,
The inherent right to preach:

“This creature is no Lady
It’s mottled wings will show.
Nature’s mark is weighty
Giving men the greater glow.”

To Knowledge, I don’t know
Just where to raise debate
For sound logic oft bellows;
All other sounds negate.

To Innocence, I instate
The right to their own dreams
For Knowledge most often prates
But to temporal things.

If this Lady be a man
It’s Known as something else.
If Knowing, I understand
I then stand with true wealth.

The qualities of woman
That give themselves to mind
Are imbued with compassion
As loving, gentle, kind.

Characteristics of men
Are, themselves, very grand;
The powerful tradition
Of reason and strength of hand.

Ladybugs lack the latter
While holding fast the first.
An issue of such matter
It breaks apart the verse.

Amanda, Amanda
You are my only Lady.
Your hand in mine is the
Joy in the heavens waiting:

Not touch, or scent or sight
Or your laughter in my ears
But the knowledge that Might
Made you to share all my years.

It is that Love which binds,
That is eternal and true,
Which unifies our minds
Making one heart out of two.

This was, obviously, to my Amanda. We are engaged!

Well!! Congratulations on your engagement!
I am very happy for you... and I do like the way you write. You have great imagination.
