I sleep like the thieves
who bookend martyred Christ
in Mantegna’s, Veronese’s Calvary’s,

scantily clad, arms bent overhead,
leg drawn a step toward fetal

rarely dreaming and
then seldom of love

But darkness is never sightless
where even one shadow exists

In fugitive reflections draws
close my alabaster lover

I, always supplicant and she,
faceless like the pixelized,
unconsenting on Cops

Never headless as unearthed
statuary, Winged Victory

I take warmth now from a fire
which I’d thought only gas,

envy the blue crab drowned
in the sky, its oars silenced,
pincer's anchors to our
Mother Earth

Your use of BC, AD, and non-art forms certainly put strength into this piece and I enjoyed the analogies a great deal.  I tried to assess this piece of poetry but could not help feel an acute sadness washing over it or a type of emptiness in the heart of it.  However, these two lines showed such a hopeful side.
quote:
But darkness is never sightless
where even one shadow exists

Look how long that art has withstood the test of time, absolutely incredible.  It is good reading you again, my brain was getting far too lazy       Take care.

Richard, the word solemnity somehow fits this piece. So good to read you again.
