Holding Aside

Life slides by
like a riot on
a water slide,
all noise and
flailing fools
fighing gravity
and each other,
losing altitude
even while they
chortle over
what they call
winning, whining
imagined losses
or revelling in
the shallow speed.

I wait quiet
here on the
margin, safe;
content to hold
the steady edge
a while, share
what’s shared.
Still, solid, while
the hullabaloo
reels past,
I am patient,
confident. They
will do what
they will do.
Loving you
is what I do.

There you stand, steadfast and true
In waters still, beyond the hullabaloo.

~ And still waters run deep!

Life slides by
like a riot on
a water slide,

I LOVE THAT LINE!!! It's evokes such unique imagery. Where did you think that one up?!

all noise and
flailing fools
fighing gravity
and each other,
losing altitude
even while they
chortle over
what they call
winning, whining
imagined losses
or revelling in
the shallow speed.

I wait quiet
here on the
margin, safe;
content to hold
the steady edge
a while, share
what’s shared.
Still, solid, while
the hullabaloo
reels past,
I am patient,
confident. They
will do what
they will do.
Loving you
is what I do.

I really like this strong ending. I have a "thing" for poems that end with--how should I word it?--I don't know how to word it but this endings one of them!LOL! Keep up the great work. I'm hooked to your poems already!
