He loved her.
Indeed he did
even gave her
her very own pedestal of gold
bejeweled with all the gems
he thought her personality matched.
sought to pull down stars
to make angels salute her
as they passed by
whispering with their wings
that she
was the only one
who could ever keep the title
of Angel.
But she knew he was wrong
and he still loved her
'til the end of his heart
til some night
she scratched the beginning
of another goodbye into his world
all his promises
of no matter what
always in friendship
came crashing down
just as hard as that pedestal
he gave her came.
But she had warned him
fairly
and honestly
no decisions made in haste
(a promise for herself not so long ago)
Love is love
no matter how far away
and patience is the virtue
that it thrives on.
In several fleeting moments
she almost gave in
to the hands that held on
when no one else could
to the love in his eyes
(although she did not return it)
to the tenderness of his voice
when his songs were singing
to an audience of Her.
It all felt secure
and so here
in the moment
and her life had been driven too far
down dark highways
by mere moments
of unthinkingly
and blindly following love
just because it was offered
and not because it was shared.
Love offered
should be shared
right?
Not anymore
she understands.
He doesn't
perhaps some day he will
but he still loves her
although she colored the white wings he gave her
in the purest of black
when she shattered her pedestal
(as it always happens)
her heart
and his own
in the flailing fall
back down.

I LOVE YOU! I LOVE YOU! I LOVE YOU!

So is honesty, yet sometimes, it still isn't enough, is it? A poignant poem, dear poet.

This is the Achilles heel in all romantics. The desire, the compulsion to encapsulate what they perceive as beauty, to revere upon a pedastal, demanding silently that, like statue, nothing change. And, invariable, something does.

Very thought provoking piece that speak to many, especially this one while younger. This poem is deserving of my signiture line.

It doesn't pay to be put on a pedestal...

It's too easy not to live up to it.

I really liked this line a bunch.
