As I wait for you hidden by shadows of night
The panic I feel is so taunting
I glimpse at the moonlight up through the trees,
And its vaporous tidings are haunting

Why must we meet in the smallest of hours
When no one can see or ever protest
At the time of the night when my fear devours
The calm and composure I always possess

I fear I’ll lose my balance and fall into a deep hollow
That you will never find me seizes me with dread
For where I go you never follow
And on my footprints you never tread

I hear the leaves rustle with your tentative stride
I’m frozen in place as my heart starts to race
My terror is boundless and fails to subside
Until the moon shines its light on your face

These trysts that you insist upon always feel coerced
You succeed to take away my soul from me
I feel like part of me is cursed
And the peace I seek will never be

Discreetly you kiss me without coming too close,
If your hand touched mine some pact might break
As I struggle to hold you, you seem so morose
Until I agree to let go for your sake

The air around me is bracingly cold
The chill in your heart is equally bitter
What could I have done to be gripped in this hold
And cause my whole soul to embitter

You stay only a moment, I think it a dream
I try to contain the anguish I feel
As I sit on the rocks at the edge of the stream
I grasp for a way to make it all real
