There is not a void where god could be
god is the void toward which,
you see,
with or without belief
we frightened humans stumble
through each life
in an effort to return to the source
from which we came.
All of life,
all living things,
in some way
do the same;
humans simply have the added pain
of being separately ensouled,
so we seek connections with each other
in our journeys
thinking first that human contact is the goal,
so as not to travel alone
through territories littered
with broken understandings,
on game trails which are often dark
full of monsters of our own making.
Then, we seek the path
thinking that is the goal;
reaching that,
we feel the greater pull
fed by each step of understanding.
If god exists
and is the sum of all things,
then the sum of all things
must be patient.

I am more glad than I can say that you have shared this. It gives me insights that I might never have had, without it.

wisdom they say comes from understanding what we can, questioning what we do not, and accepting it all as part of something larger than any of us...

I'd say sir..your wisdom is evident.. and greatly appreciated by this reader..

I clicked on "reply" without knowing what I was going to say but here I am and so I guess I must say something.  We all come from one source, the source of love.  To love we must return.  The first step is loving one another in the knowledge that they too must return.  This doesn't mean that we have to "like" everybody and God, if he be anywhere, then he is in me - in the void I create by thinking that I am alone.  What I can see tells me that I am alone and I often wonder why that should be but then what I feel tells me that I am part of something bigger.  Sometimes, most times, living is hard and it gets harder still as we begin to question and seek answers where none exist except within ourselves and then we get busy.  "Busy-ness" is one sure way of making sure we never touch on the truth and the part that says, "I am and always will be".
My advice to myself is to "lighten up" and ask, yes, always ask for what I truly want and it will come to pass in the fullness of time.  Time?  Oh, we have no concept of time - no concept at all which is perhaps how it should be.  I think I got slightly off track here.  Good poem, thanks!

King Rat was right. I definitely needed to read this.

Thanks for the tip, RL.
