The letter began...

I never told you for
I was not equipped to do so.
The words were not available to me.
Most certainly, not part of my vocabulary
for I had never heard them uttered unto me,
no matter the circumstance

But I know you need to hear
these words.

That didn’t change with age...

The longing remained
constant,
unceasing.

And although a few he’s,
one time or another,
did make the effort,

You didn’t believe
You couldn’t believe

How could you?

By never, not once, ever
hearing those words from them

You remained
unreachable,
untouchable,
unlovable

Four decades later,
I must now give you
what was not given unto me

I need your help,
your promise

Tonight,
stand proudly,
shoulders aligned,
spine straight.

Before the mirror,

Look deep into your own eyes,
my eyes,
and say
defiantly,
nobly,

“I love you.”

Because sometimes we must give ourselves
what others would not.

This letter signed simply...

Your Child Within

A thought...
Go tell your children you love them.
Do it now.
Do it for them.
Do it for you.
~Patricia

A flood of emotion threatened to overcome me as I read your impassioned words. There is so much wisdom and passion and truth in what you have so poetically expressed from deep withing the you of you.

Love to you, Chelsea & Macy! ~ and to each of the little girls within each of you!

Patricia,
Believe me when I say this piece touched me deeper
than anything I have ever read here on these blue pages.
You have managed to express in your own words
something I often think and feel.
Bless you for this dear lady.
Hugs~

We, many of us have this yearning to feel
something that just didn't happen often,
and because of it,  we still have that
child within that wants to be held, loved,
stroked emotionally from time to time...

Yes,  every time you see your children,
give to them that which you yourself so
desperately crave...for they crave it as
well!  I know...very well....

Thanx Patricia,  brings lots of thought
out of the cobwebs...

Patricia,

Thank you for a passionate piece. It is an important message, a reminder that what we sometimes seek so desperately from others is often times within our own reach.

Thank you again for reminding me.

Did I ever need this...did I ever! Thank you for graciously sharing this part of yourself.
It couldn't have been easy to do this. I too had a parent that never said I love you. I made up for that by vowing there would never a day go by that I didn't tell my sons I love you. And I did that everyday of their lives until they moved out on their own, and I miss being able to say it everyday. :''(
Love,
Terri~
