*"so much depends
upon"
.................

Observe, from the grave,
Doctor Williams:
How your poems have made us familiars.

Though the message in my sunrise might,
Look different, in cheer or warning...
How my work takes bits,
Of your view of colors and shapes
Of what is below and what is above
And places them at different sights;
Different, yet the same
The world has not changed much,
Anger, chance, lust and romance
Are all still found in the rising sun
And must be written of...
So, as I sit

to write, staring east
I imagine in the yellow light,
A red wheelbarrow
And  wet-white,
Chickens
In your smoky-grey
(Turn-of-the-century)
Patterson, and

Sequester secrets
That hide, opaque
On the dim-parchment of dawn;
Jot them down,
Kindle, and make bright
With new-word accelerants
That transfigure meaning...
Deep, lung-oxygen
Working tongue sounds
Transforming into electric,
Fire and static, burning them
Into glass covered paper,
First smoldering, then bursting
Into clearly seen flames...
Sparked by the match
Of a masters inspiration...

* From "The Red Wheelbarrow"
