Fields lie barren
As wind bares down
The ache of cold
like loneliness
In that it makes you long
For something gone

But sometimes
In our need to remember
We forget
What was missing
What became intolerable
Or that we learned to become silent

Instead we see what we want
Read what we need
Learn to ignore-
For sanity's
sake

In the end
We miss the good
For the bad becomes
And teaches us
To settle-
For isn't something
better than nothing?
And it's just too hard to go

November winds
Remind me
To hear the sound
And know I am here
No longer there

~Special Thank you to Edder for being the wall in which I bounced this off of.~

Ah Susan..how well I know this feeling..
and how true that we settle for something
far less than what we deserve because it becomes comfortable.

Well done!

Again, you have read my mind Susan,
dang you write what I feel sometimes
only you do it much better than I ever could!

Susan this is a marvelous piece. I am jealous I did not write this...so I am just going to be happy with the fact I got to read it!

Well, ya know I can relate to this one.  I sure am glad you're here, no longer there.  But then again, if you were still there and I didn't know you, then I wouldn't miss you huh?  Ok, now I'm confusing myself.
Great writing darlin.  Reminds my of a Monet...

Eddie~ I am just glad you are like me and can email at work...lol...which reminds me of a joke...

Why is there a white line down the center of the hallway in Government buildings?

So the people coming in late don't bump into the people leaving early!

Sue~Thank you!

Hey you!! You snuck up on me!!

Monet?  Really? I would have never thought of that...

If I was still "there" my soul would have died by now...

There are so many people leading this kind of life...learning to settle.  I'm glad you realized and left.  I like this honest outpouring of your heart.  Hugs!

My expression for this is "Old pain is safer than new risk."  Took me quite a while to realize this isn't true.
Very lovely write.  Ken
