she was a special dog
our Sarah
first year of her life she was abused
by people who ignored
the precious gift she offered them
her unconditional love

she was a special dog
our Sarah
after eleven months
rejoined with her sister Tsjip
with whom she didn't dare to play
those first days

she was a special dog
our Sarah
when she looked at you
with those big brown eyes
begging you to throw the stick
then she would run and catch it

she was a special dog
our Sarah
holding on, while Addison disease
took over her body
at the age of two and a half
heavy medication throughout her life
but she managed fine

she was a special dog
our Sarah
but tonight she decided
to leave us
she died at 17.30 local time
at the age of almost 8
we will miss her
terribly

our special dog
Sarah

may you rest in peace

This breaks my heart, Titia. I know how you feel about animals and I'm sure of how well you took care of Sarah. The pain of losing a pet is devastating, I know. There are no words of comfort I can offer that would do much good. You took care of her, did everything you could to make her life as happy as possible and I'm sure she lived many years longer than she would have without your help and love. Remember that and keep the happy thoughts of her close to you to get through this sad time. My thoughts are with you, dear Dutchie

Thanks Duncan, take good care of your dog, every moment is precious.

Michael, thank you so much for your comforting words. I've a hard time now, because she was real special to me. I rescued her from her first year misery, it took me three days to straighten out her hair, those people kept her in the garage all the time and used to put her in a big crate at night, she had no hair on her front legs because of the scratching trying to get out. At the age of eleven months, there was a difference in weight of 4 kilo's between the two dogs. You could see her bones sticking out. And then, after a few months of good care, she won the clubmatch over 45 dogs. The woman said: "That's how a Griffon Korthals has to look" and I was so proud.

Yes, she had a good life, despite of her disease. She was a happy dog and I loved her to pieces. She didn't suffer too much and I'm glad she went on her own. She wasn't well for the last couple of days and tonight, just after I got home from work, she stopped breathing as if she had been waiting for me. (a lovely comforting thought).

Titia

They do wait, Titia.  They wait for the hand that they licked and loved, to touch them once again.  You were so lucky and fortunate to have her in your life - almost as lucky as she was to have you.  Thank you for sharing this most lovely dog...I know you will remember her always.

Oh Titia, I am so very sorry and know the hole this leaves in a heart.  I feel so sad for her sister too, she will be needing more than usual attention until she gets used to loosing her sister.  I don't know of anything more comforting than the love of animal nor anything more devastating than loosing our pet.  May God be with you all including her separated sister right now, I am so sorry.

I feel your pain friend.  Many years ago I had to endure the pain of deciding whether or not to have my dog euthanized.  I have never shed so many tears for a lost family member.  I want to share my favorite dog quote with you, maybe some comfort.  "No heaven can heaven be, if my dog's not there to welcome me."  And my second favorite, "I hope someday I can be the person my dog thinks I am."  both unknown.

as I read this I was not only reminded of the many loyal pets I've had in my lifetime...but also thought of children as well, and how they to, need good homes...one family in particular...in New Jersy, where three of the children who had been adopted were starved?????  My love for animals is never ending...but feel an even greater need for such loyalty to our society's children...b/c presently there is great deterioration within that system.

I will cry just like now when I lose my cats to their age.  Right now they are just 6 but I know the days are coming when they will too go to wait at the Rainbow Bridge. God Bless you for sharing a glimpse of her life with us.  I can tell that you love her and will miss her.

Sherry
