Walking through the lonely street,
Shrouded in darkness,
In the late hour of night,
I was terrified to see a ghostly figure,
It was formless yet formidable,
No one was near to rescue me,
I ran giving out a shriek,
But the more I tried to get away,
From the gruesome apparition,
More close it seemed,
Finally I managed to reach,
The end of street, some how,
Which was populated and illuminated,
Only to realize I was afraid of my own shadow,
I continued walking, self-humiliated.

You reminded me of a story that my mother told on herself - it WAS Halloween, and she and two friends were walking home after a movie.  They could swear they heard someone walking behind them, but every time they stopped and turn, the "walker" stopped as well.

They scared themselves so badly they ran home!  Only after they got there did one of the girls realize that her shoe's heel had come loose, and caused the extra "walker's" noise....

Thank you for the memory.
