                    Old Man’s Supper

                    Two chops fried
                    and boiled potatoes
                    the kettle stained
                    and dented
                    the iron skillet inky black
                    and barely visible

                    store-bought
                    white bread
                    now that she’s gone
                    and the potato water’s
                    going to waste

                    his smelly spaniel, Laddie
                    ratty with ticks and cockleburs
                    waits patiently
                    for his share

                    between the days
                    repeated
                    and the nights alone

                    Tom at least
                    enjoys at home

                    an old man’s supper

I know the reference
to potatoe water...
and bread.

Well done, Krawdad...
it brought back much
to mind.

Thank you.
