As was their custom, they gathered,
Celts from north and west and east
From all the British Isles, and France
Druid priests, and Shamans
Aligned by religion
Insisting the souls of good-dead,
Turned into
Newborn, happy children;
And spirits of the bad-
dead into wild beasts.
*
High, lifts the high priest, his scepter
The stars come alive, become magical
Releasing cryptic powers in plants,
And those pent-up in wild-animals.
Worship-praising the Horn God-
Sun God-caldron
Beseeching Sanheim, lord of the gallows
Head-master, of the dead;
To smite all live-bad Druids,
At their New-Years-eve celebration...
*
All cry! "come, we must jail them in wicker
And fling the reed basket into the fire
Observing close, the way they die
Their writhes
Will show us omens
That were deeply hidden,
While they lived their stolid lives."
*
"In  bonfire bright, let us sing,
'round it dance, look close
And bring back the sun though it night.
All donned in horrid, monster-masks
Faced like trolls that hide, unseen
But come alive in sacrificial light.
*
And then;
*
"House to house, call for offerings,
Of sweet and bread
Beg alms from the relatives,
Of those by our spells-and-our-fires,
Now dead."

Hauntingly good this is.

Cold hands means a warm heart
