Daughter

As winds whipped
Autumn's scattered cloak of colors
Into whirl against the sky
And chill climbed unclad ankles
Billowing skirts and
Encouraging scurry
From even accomplished lollygaggers,
Time stopped for me
And I held the promise of spring
To the curve of my breast.

I'd uttered words
Of love and passion, professed
To know their meaning
But gazing at you, a feeling
Never once imagined
Transformed my existence
Exploded in my cells.
I knew I'd go through hell
And more for you
Without hesitation.

Years have passed
But memories don't fade
And October brings
A portal through time
I grasp your tiny hand in mine.
Through eyes that blur with tears
I see those yesteryears
More clearly than today,
Welcome you with soft whisper -
You were the best of me.

Suthern,  they are, aren't they....and can
be so deeply loved as well as so stubborn
and all those other words so typical of our
children....  A beautiful poem.

You will already know I am loving the allits..the assonance and the word play ...the first verse was moth heaven
Yes -- YES... tis a poem and then some...
you have made free verse your own with this graceful, tender beauty.

And I held the promise of spring
To the curve of my breast.

what a poetically perfect personifi

That this a sharing of your words and heart for another, makes it even more special.
Very lovely Ruth-girlie.

You're the color of the sky reflected in each store-front window pane ...
You're the whispering and the sighing of my tires in the rain.

Suthern, I think anyone who has beared a child can relate to this as I know I feel just like this when it comes to April.  Very well done, a poetic joy to read.  Hugs.

Suthern, good Lord yes
reminds me of my son, indeed
Bless your Heart for this and for
you and her

But gazing at you, a feeling
Never once imagined
Transformed my existence
Exploded in my cells.
I knew I'd go through hell
And more for you
Without hesitation.

Suthern, you are such a loving, caring, beautiful and compassionate soul. I really felt your words and it brought back memories of my own. This poem must have meant a great deal to the mother for whom it was intended.

~ May your goodness be rewarded many times over, Dear Belle of the South!

A beautiful gift of words...

Loving hugs,
Linda

Did I mention that the sensitivity and grace of this poem simply astounds me? You enter another person's emotional world in a way that is utterly valid, and then wag a finger our way to invite us to join you there. Good work, this, all the way through.

Sweet Suthern, I must admit that I thought this a page from your life before reading the explanation you provided. A tribute to your remarkable talent and gentle soul, me thinks.
