When I was just a little girl
we loved Halloween
We'd dress up in our costumes
the cutest you'd ever seen

Goblins and witches, devils and Angels
sometimes a cute little clown
If around you would look, you might
even see a Charlie Brown

We would go to all the houses
in the neighborhood
Oh, the nice treats they would prepare
for us were so very good

Candy apples, popcorn balls, candy
all different kinds of good treats
Our Mothers would check our bags
but only to limit our sweets

We all had lots of innocent fun
to be afraid of our treats, not ever
That was a while back, I'm  talking about
then some bad folks tried to be clever

Now, even if the kids get to go
trick or treat in  this sad day
Their parents have to check the treats
some even with an x-ray

You see, the cruel bad folks
who thought they were so clever
Into the treats put razor blades
pills or no telling whatever

When this happens I just want to cry
for it is so very, very sad
That even trick or treat on Halloween
turned out sometimes to be bad

The bad is still outweighed by the good
so let kiddies trick or treat on their day
Halloween can be a good fun time
when all the young like to dress up and play

When trick or treaters come to your door
if little witches, devils or angels you see
Look real close at all the ghosts
because the Casper one might be me

Happy Halloween, Everyone!!

When I was a kid, Halloween was my favorite holiday.  And like you, sometimes I think that kids now will never really experience what we did.  Shame for them, it was always a blast!

Hello Ethel

I really liked reading about Halloween, especially because we didn't celebrate it when I was young and it is only in recent years that kids go trick or treating here in Australia.  But we still don't celebrate it in the way you do, I'm not sure why?

Take care......Sue

hehehe....this is the cutest thing. I just loved this. Brought back lots of fun times, and what always turned out to be the starting of the cold in our area. No more extreme heat. Happy Halloween to you, too!
Love,
Terri~

Oh I loved Halloween and still do, our tradition is watching "The Great pumpkin Charlie Brown"..."The Legend Of Sleepy Hallow"..."Halloween is Grinch Night"...we would go and get candy for hours.. no school the next day..(trees were chopped down and blocked the roads),coming home tired and filling the candy drawer up..the candy would last till Christmas..then we would restock of course with candy from stockings...LOL!
My favorite was the homemade carmel covered apples,Homemade cupcakes, and the wilton melted chocolate suckers(the kind you melt and paint)...mmmmmm...but these days kids have to be safe...

Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

(sad sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, I hope you and your neighbors have a wonderful Halloween, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ethel, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Beware of things that go bump in night
Beware of things that give you fright
Beware of things that claw and bite
Beware of things not of the Light
