In my chair feet dangling
lacking rationality
I'd reason with you
if I could
if you'd listen
then I would--
how I yearn lucidity
vocabulary's
art of tongue
wisdom of the very young
or elderly too tired to speak
and no--
it's not the shape of spoon
no--it's not the taste of food
nor is it your lack of game
that makes me clamp my lips this way
rejection of the offerings
enticement of the sugar sweet
coatings of the coo--
say "Please?"

I turn my head away.

Put the bowl down.
Let me be.

When I get hungry I will eat.

always gotta wonder what those poor kids are thinking...
how much they think...
they're probably smarter then us... reality just made us stupid.
well done

Karen, I feel this way, too, sometimes....and want to just be left alone until I'm  ready......

Yeah but sometimes you need that kick in the pants ya know? That encouragement...not nagging but something a little less.

Loved this Serenity! Damn! Is everyone been writing up a storm while I've been working 56 hour weeks? Too good girl!

Wonderful as always.

serenity,
As I read this I couldn't help thinking it's not about the young, or the old, but about all of us who have needed care at one time or might in the future. Too sad. Too true. "When I am hungry I will eat". "Infirmary", if it rings a bell that's not Pavlovs',then you've probably been there.
Thanks for this one.

This reminds me of the time
I played with laryngitis [what else
does one do with it?]
and the questions never seemed to cease...
and all I could do
was fold arms
and shake head.

I like Doc's take on it as well.

We have to be there, to know!
