~

Tonight she moves so slowly to the center of the room,
a solo spotlight beckons, palest pearl, her sweet perfume
trails close behind her, slaying lovers, capturing their souls,
her catlike footsteps falling soft beneath the satin folds.

Her supple skin glows warm tonight, like caramel and cream,
her shoulders smooth and curved and bare, a gentle rise would seem
to hold her heavy velvet lidded eyes in blue-teared gaze,
the smoke-filled room went silent as her voice broke through the haze.

It cost me a lot, but there's one thing that I’ve got, it's my man
Cold or wet, tired, you bet, all of this I’ll soon forget, with my man

Her voice is low and soft and clear, each syllable defined
in moans and whispers cradled carefully, her pain confined,
her graceful fingers slice the air, she gathers up a sigh
and holds it close against her breast, but only she knows why.

He's not much on looks, he's no hero out of books, but I love him, yes, I love him
Two or three girls has he, that he likes as well as me, but I love him

Her hair is black as pitch, pulled back, her halo shines of pearl,
sweet honeyed skin that glistens gold, no ordinary girl
could love a man that much, she’s bid a safer life goodbye
with lips of ruby red that kiss the stars down from the sky.

I don't know why I should, he isn't true
He beats me, too, what can I do?

She loves a man, a no count man; her eyes tell what lips don’t,
her cries hid down inside those notes, she could leave, but she won't,
and that sweet gal can mask her fears and love her man all night
and wail those blues and bathe her soul in light of eerie white.

Oh, my man, I love him so, he'll never know
All my life is just despair, but I don't care
When he takes me in his arms, the world is bright
All right

Her heart cries sighs between the lines, no smile, eyes somber grey,
she loves that man, that no count man, and in his arms she’ll stay
her voice drops to a whisper, and each note tears at her throat,
she knows there’ll be no respite, heart grows paler with each note.

What's the difference if I say I'll go away
When I know I'll come back on my knees someday
For whatever my man is, I'm his
forevermore

So no one knows, except that man, that no count man of hers,
how many times she’s paid for love, abuse that she incurs,
so many hurts and wounds won’t heal, such things can’t be undone,
and now she sings her sorrow to an audience of one.

Thank you all very much. I feel much better.
