I left the umbrella behind,
it's necessity beyond me.
The drops, though cool,
warming my thoughts
waking me to a time of fantasy.

It rained tonight,
memories of a time not yet had.
I felt its praise, freely given
as I turned around
recorded these words
and slipped back into the spill.

the rain or the fantasy or these weird dreams I am having about having to share a dorm with guys and study History...darn..where on earth do these thoughts come from anyway???

(I use to dream I failed Biology, never  graduated and was teaching without my degree... Now it's turned to History)

guess it's time to slip back to sleep...and hope for that fantasy instead.

thanks Dixie

Wait, you teach Biology??  Someone actually got that stuff in college??  Wow..and history?  Hmmmmmm...was the dream in color and was there any flying?

As for the rain...I have never carried an umbrella...I think every once in the while we are supposed to get drenched, it keeps us humble..

Love ya M!

Maureen,

An excellent write.  You teach biology at the high school level?  I got to share a story with you.  I am a Computer Lab instuctor at high school.  A student told me the other day whe was broken hearted when she heard a teacher say a curse word.  She said she believed teachers did not have human thoughts.  Hello!  I thought in my mind, read some of my poetry!

I think I saw another one of your poems...back to #29 for me.

Susan and Patricia...no I don't teach Biology or History..that is what is so funny(strange) I taught and will teach again Early Childhood.. K-3 grades. But I have substituted in the high school in those courses....hmmm maybe that is where those  dreams came from..but oh so long ago.

And Patricia, I use to have trouble going to local dances way back when because all my student's parents were there.
Then you taught in the neighborhood you lived in..no curse words, no "too close" dancing or too wild and never with one of the parents. Oh and I never could have a drink or smoke a cigarette in front of them.

They constantly would come up to me and say "How come I never had a teacher that looked like you"...I never could answer them  although I remember asking  as a child, "Dad how come you married mommy..you should have married Miss Rogers,( my 3rd grade teacher) she is so beautiful... and I never lived that one down, spent the day  hiding in the cloakroom when my  dad told me he told the teacher what I said. (my mom was beautiful too, I just loved my teacher )

~smiling~
thanks
Maureen

Maur~ It does my heart good to read you happy, because when you're not I feel it like my own.

This reminded me of running through the rain in Ocean City.

Hugs you~
