Is but the eve of darkness falls
ever silent in flitting sleep.
Where ravens walk the edge of light.
Where dim the shadows quietly die.

Is but the grieve in found recall
where loves and lives do then return.
Where once was felt and touched so light
as flickering fires of candles burn.

And once the heart is touched by voice
and graze of tips of fingers trace.
A vision comes, not chosen choice
to wind the stem of rose’s vase.

And if the stem does swiftly break
upon the tug of lover’s grasp.
A need shall rise of thirst to slake
before the hands are joined in clasp.

For of the sweetness of the dew
a tongue shall taste and yearn of more.
When sheets are torn and thrown askew
beyond the cloak of lover’s door.

now..you are writing in gothic mystery..lord man... how is a body like me to try and match your forms???

geez.... ( chuckling)

you set the stage well with this Barry and the tone as well as the images become that of gothic romance and mystery...

I enjoyed

Thanx Sy,  a pleasure to give...

Ron...whatcha mean?  Sir....you be duh Mannn!

For whence the bird does fly
amongst the cotton blue.
A Captain shall then spy
a chosen verse or two...

And thence the sail shall fall
to cover up the main.
As once he shall recall
and write...again....again....

LOL...

Mr. Smooth
let words slip from mind
and slide
              the long way down
to grace a reader's page
     while inside
the mind they craved
to make the words there own
and with each
                 sigh
he shited tone
               another key
to play notes against
              some inner harmony
he seemed to write
      one world black against another
     white
barry's keyboard sang
while the rest of us just called

again! again!

Play the words
             and soothe

yeah.. play for us..

Mr Smooth...

Oh, you silly man....Can not thee see thy own silk upon the once white page.  Where
muses dance the nightly ball...and thee
are known and called "Sage".

Barry...oh goodness, I have to say I believe this to be one of your finest poems.  I am going back for my fifth read as soon as I finish praising this.  I knew this read would be a great one based on the title...I got the feeling your Poe spirit would grace us again.  A keeper, my friend.  To the library this one must go!

Magnificent!

Barry's Introspection
..............

Allegory written one can see
the inner demon turn
in demand

You, sir!
to Barry's pen it speaks
would you have some offering
for this thought you penned?

One saw only the grin
of a shadowed thought pass his eyes
and Barry began again to write
of things that he would have others see
pointing always to where they are
but not to where they lie

Yet Demons are never still
and would drive this man's quill
to wear thin the nub
each word he scrubbed against the white

till smoother than the silken thread it lay upon
Barry offered up another poem
        and his demons cried...
their own self doubt denied
as those who read his works
simply sighed...

Of the main and mast
of the damsels cast.
Of the briney deep
