in the shadows

In summer that year,
with the scent of sunburned earth
and grass too thick but cut anyway,
you played out your teary drama,
queen of the night,
the Succubus
of every young man's sweaty dreams.
Did I ever tell you how it feels
when it seems the world is collapsing,
tumbling down
in blocks of random size,
dust and screams
that rang only in my head,
when you said this was what's best for me?.
All I wanted
was to awake
from what should have been a bad dream,
or shake you hard,
and ask if you really are insane
in thinking anything so vital
can be removed from the living
as a gift to gods of whimsy
and still have life remain.
Now you tell me
you could tell me all the truth,
but you can't unless you're drunk;
I almost stood and slapped my head,
like a cartoon fool,
and screamed out,
"Who woulda ever thunk it!
You!
Keeping secrets
from me!"
But the comedy pales on the phone;
for it to work,
it is in fact a visual gag.
Did you really think I would raise a flag of surrender?
Can you really still believe this is playing out as a game?
I would change my number
if it wasn't such a pain to inconvenience other people,
those who really are important in my life today.
When you left
so did I;
I never did come back
no part of me you knew is here today;
now I really wish you'd simply stay away.
That should be clear
no matter how you try to twist
our one-sided conversations,
I always told you truth
there's no reason now to lie.
No means no,
go means go,
don't means don't;
don't make me wish you'd die.

Such a complex pleading here.

Love me, hate me, hug me, let me be...

I always did think that Poe was speaking of such when he wrote of The Raven, tap-tap-tapping...y'know?

Of course you do.

Loved this and related.

(and that pic is just...well, makes me smile.) I could put you in the family album and you would find camouflage there...grin.

A very complicated X -- but very well and firmly drawn.

Not so complex for one as simple-minded as myself....Puts me in mind of a certain cage-dancing, para-legal that I once married.

Very nice Icedude

most definately feeling like you wrote alot of what I have felt lately, and thanking you for putting it into words that I just couldn't for some reason.....
very well done....

Listening and not being able to talk back to a voice on the answering machine must be difficult.  It's a good thing you have poetry's way with words.  Hugs!
