To Know What Feeling

Too many things are crowding their way into my mind
hunkering down somewhere behind
my soul

leaving this aching feel for a need to
“put a finger on it,”
yet, it is as
ephemeral as distance
and fog light

this desire to pull up asphalt, take down
concrete
push over glass walls and rip out
stray wires

for somewhere, out there,
statuesque braves and lovely squaw
who bore laughing children
are taking up wigwams,
loading their travois, ponies
ready for journey,

and I would go with them, and
skirt the future.

YES!! Nodding in understanding...my thoughts as well.
And the picture is perfect!
Oh, to have been able to join them on their journey!
Beautiful Karilea...on Columbus Day.
~Hugs YOU!~

Not so long ago, I could not imagine living in a place far from a big city...I am but a few miles from the St. Louis City limits and less than 15 from downtown St. Louis. Now, I actually dream of a quiet little place where I can be alone with my thoughts, away from the wires and asphalt. Ahh...I could blame my change of heart on many changes in my life, but I know what has made all of the difference...it's all in the words, a poet's words.

Just beautiful and I would join them, as well.

Well done, Karilea!

Now I understand the chills.  Strange how
thoughts sometimes cross miles...imagine
them on a wagon trail....or as in this case,
the slow bumpy course of indians travelling
across a great frontier,  no contrails
streaking high above them,  silently
cleaving the heavens...  when life was so
simple, yet cruel.  For the average life
expectancy then was probably less than 45
years of age...

In ways,  we are blessed...but that hunger
still comes to the craw, doesn't it?

Hi, I've been missing piptalk poems. Been gone for so long,*sigh*
And I can't put my finger to writing one - just content to browse and soak in everyone's posts here - yours, the 1st one for me to open.
Love the part where you said "skirt the future" - sounds like a comfy, lazy, peaceful way to embrace what's ahead.

I live in a country area with similar surrounds as the pic you show, but the concrete seems to spreading. Maybe I will pack up my wigwam and leave. lol. I enjoyed reading this.

I'm with you on this.  Our family has lived on our family farm since the 1920s.  In hopes to raise the kids to experience nature, we built a house in the back woods, over a third of a mile off the road.   The suburbs are approaching us fast, and I foresee a time when we will no longer be comfortable having livestock.   You know--too many moo's in the middle of the night!
   Enjoyed your write.

(smiling)

Those pulls of past are often I think simply the pull of balance..
without balance, we know the unsettled and the chaos...

nicely done K...

I enjoyed

I feel this poem so deeply.
Karilea, my friend, I am honored to be yours, for your talent surpasses that to which I could even aspire!

Your spirit touched mine with this write.

yesssss........I know........
which is why I was walking in creekbeds and river banks this weekend picking up fossils and shells. Yes.... lets go.

every time I talk to you its over too soon
every day feels incomplete till you walk into the room
just say the words, I'll jump that moon.
