Certainty,
wasn’t there in the pit of an empty and rolling gut.
Not knowing the next day’s toils.

Listening to the rails, waiting for the speak of
mouths unseen, the taunting and daunting
voices.

When might the murmur fall upon ears that
no longer strain to hear the syllables spoken
silently among the trees that sway gently
against an Autumn breeze?  When might
it all just simply fade into twilight as the
orange hues of sunset cast into the shimmer
of golden green eyes?

Countless ties of creosote and pitch, lying
silent before the weary feet of a traveler
who knows only of yesterday and waits
for tomorrow to speak gently.

Yet, the harsh reality of winter’s chill...
Stirring the flesh into shivers.  Brings
back the shuffle of shoes upon the granite
shards.

Another train comes, should one step
lightly aside, and wave silently to the
eyes of an engineer, traveling life’s
rails into yesterday....

As feet shuffle the morrow and eyes
strain into the darkness of today.
Waiting patiently for the tiny red
caboose,   hoping to sip a cup
of silence with friendly eyes.

I wish I could describe
the chills I felt
when I read
this...

simply
because my
thoughts have been
of times before the pavement...

Well done sir.

Magnus~
There is a tender poignancy here~

'When might
it all just simply fade into twilight as the

of golden green eyes?'

Barry,

I think we all look for friendly eyes, a smile, an "open arms" gesture.  We don't realize how much we can impact someone's day.  I know I make a difference, just standing outside my classroom waving and smiling at students.  How do I know?  Those same students look for me to be there every day.  And they return the smile in flash of friendly eyes.  This is what this lovely poem says to me.  You know what?  I won't stop smiling with friendly eyes...no, never!

A wonderful treasure you have written in the tradition of "Magnus elegance."

Patricia
