Could have been me tonight

I'll tell you a tale, can you picture this
It is a story you don't want to miss

At 1.00am, one was banging the door
I stumbled down, thinking what on earth for
There was this lady, all dressed very neat
I couldn't recall we had ever meet

It happens sometimes when people get lost
They take a turn and the wrong roads are crossed
But this was differ'nt, she came from 'round here
And she wasn't at all loaded with beer

"I'm sorry she said, but do you have sheep?"
I knew that minute, they had taken a leap
"I came back from work and saw them right there
It's one mile away, they've horns and long hair"

"You are right" I told her, "those sheep are mine
And now it appears they've crossed country line
I'll put on my coat and will take my car
I'll follow you down, thank God it's not far"

I took a bucket with dried food they love
And prayed for a little help from above
As soon as they heard the sound of food
They came running down and that felt so good

I walked that mile in full moon with my sheep
Giving them dried food and close they would keep
The road was lightened, no car came along
And I was happy, 'cause nothing went wrong

I put them at home in the stable quite safe
And told them I loved them and did not strafe
Instinct told them to follow their leader
That is me, because I am their feeder

I sure need to take a day off from work
Glad I can do that, my boss is no jerk
We'll have to mend the fence of the meadow
Or I'll be walking again tomorrow

Like scattered leaves...my words will flow

LOL, I can remember chasing some runaways. They never leave at a convenient time, do they? This made me laugh, but I'm sure glad you all made it home safely!

It was nice of her to come tell you right away, otherwise who knows what would have happened to them? Glad they got home all right.

Oh, how I remember this, only with cows. Seems they couldn't see the holes in the fence during the day, but they would sure find them at night, especially  when it was raining!

Ah Titia, this brings smiles.  More than one cow got out, and a calf or two as well, and we walked many a mile to get them back in.  I am smiling big time with this wonderful telling.  Thank you for sharing!

LOL we spend the whole day mending that fence. Once they succeed to get out, they'll always try again.

And to be on the safe side....I put in three rams!!!LOL, I know I will be having lambs next year!

And you know what....I put that white beast from last year in therapy up north in a big herd, and the shepherd told me recently he's doing ok. Finally he has overcome his fear for willing ewes

Thanks for all your comments.

Titia had a bunch of lambs;
One night before the snow
The fence was broken - out they went
Those lambs were on the go...

They followed Titia all the way
Back home - they knew the rule.
She'd feed them there 'fore break of day.
Those muttons were no fools

Oh Titia...I am so sorry, but thank you for sharing this story.  This made me think of the cows which got loose in the aftermath of a tornado in southern Missouri.  A friend related this story to me last year.  Of course, I had to analyze the situation, looking for some sort of proverb or lesson. And here it is...isn't it funny how these animals spend all of their lives behind a fence, and when they see their chance for freedom, they go.  (Boy, did your lil' sheep go.) However, we as humans often remain trapped behind a fence of our design, and never seek our opportunity for freedom.

Thanks for sharing...you may want to count those sheep before you sleep, make sure they are all there...you know once they taste freedom, they will be seeking it forevermore.
LOL
