I sometimes stare at myself
in spoons.

Milk and flakes,
a bended face,
calm and low as a bowl.

Fade out, pallid reflection,
I don't remember you.
Changing as modesty
does in infection,
I am humble in spilling
this warmth.

I collect words in my napkin.
And they spill out here.
Somewhat crumpled
and stained on,
they still are what I made.

Somewhat reflective on my faulty creations,
I love them all the same as if
they were perfect beings.
Untainted is not beauty, and not what I seek.
I expect
something imperfection would adore.

The light in the window,
rising through the pines,
trains my sight on the table.

Littered with cups,
chairs pushed away.
A study in negative spaces.

In time, I seperate myself from light,
I realize I am a different entity.
Still captured by the presence of creature.
A howl in the rise of the sun.
Touching the light, only makes shadow,
and a sliver of light upon me.
The warmth is variable, but the sting
is always there..crushing me,
proving to me, that I am weak.
That I am not the sun, nor will I ever be,
just like a dove will not be
splattered with paint of black..

It's in this light
that I scrape back from the table,
gather my used utensils to me,
and bring them to the sink.

Sometimes I stop to wonder
whose smoothed, creaseless hands
are washing the flatware.
I feel the water on my fingers,
running down my hand,
collecting in my palm,
glinting off the spoons'
smooth slopes.

Whose hands are these?

Whose mind is this that speaks in riddles,
and grinds up wilting answers?
What eye is this that sees the aura of a dying rose,
what mouth is it that screams the vicious,
tender bleak world?
Not victorious, but steady in hand,
prepared to lose all..

The water is like sacrifice, wanting,
needing to run.. in consistant pattern,
no matching droplet. As stain in my palm's
life line.
Where must it fault itself?
Where must it be to taint its own freedom,
to give ..and do nothing but?

It's only a matter of time
before the answers
hide again.

If ever there were answers
in this early morning tiredness,
face reflected in the pane.

Staring out and washing up.
Eyes meeting eyes,
hands brushing crumbs,
wet and sopping,
down the drain.

(smiles) Yay! Afternoons and coffee spoons perhaps would serve better to get a good reception I suppose, given the sun is at its pinnacle! (big group hug) God Bless You Both, sweet friend, I love this duet, we all love you both so much! You have such beautiful hearts, sweet Michael and Meghan, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you both!

Love,
Noah Eaton

I do that too.  I stare at my reflection in spoons sometimes, or in doorknobs.  It's kind of weird, isn't it?  How it ends up all twisted around and everything.  You carried the concept of a reflection delightfully far, especially into the water trickling down into the drain.  That had to be my favourite part.  I adore the evolution of this poem... it's unlike most of your work, Mike, which focuses on something static.  Looks like Kaoru came upon and breathed the notion of time into your imagery.

The result is a beautiful poem that makes fun of how I think... heh... if that makes sense?  You guys work well together... judging by this poem.  Glad I got the chance to read it.

Glad you all enjoyed. I am so tired right now, that I can't form anything coherent. So read the poem again, and that will be my response.

Mikey and Meg?

this is THE best piece I have
read in a very long time
what a mixing , My God
you took me there . . .
sat me down
tapped your fingers
upon my brain
matter
forcing me to look
at the white
and grey

The both of you are amazing
truly
I am in awe . . .

Somewhat crumpled
and stained on,
they still are what I made.

YES . . . indeed
xxoo

as for the staring, try a XMAS ornament
